Scandinavian Lux on Skandium
Have you heard about Skandium? This week, I’m particularly excited to write about my discovery of this great e-shop, which is pretty much the British home of Scandinavian Design. Founded in 1999, the three creative and business minds behind the company shared the ambition to showcase the best of the Scandinavian design scene they knew and loved across furniture, homewares, textiles, toys, and jewellery. After 17 successful years, Skandium is the exclusive retailer of many Scandinavian brands in the UK and they also produce their own range under the label Studio Skandium, which is designed in-house as well as in collaboration with emerging designers.
With a concession in Selfridges and three brick and mortar shops in Marylebone, Brompton, and Oxford Circus, Skandium is at the forefront of the British frenzy for Scandinavian design we’ve embraced these last few years. If you’re a fan of Hygge, the Danish ritual of enjoying life’s simple pleasures, you might enjoy popping by the Marylebone shop on Saturday September 10th, where Meik Wiking, from the Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen will come to present his new book release: ‘The Little Book of Hygge.’ The event is free to attend but places are limited.
Among the many brands Skandium showcases on their e-shop, one that particularly caught my eye is the Copenhagen-based Georg Jensen. With 100 years of heritage and a unique Danish design DNA, the luxury silversmith brand has earned a solid reputation for its refined craftsmanship and the timeless quality of its pieces, which see day-to-day home objects transformed into works of art. Placing both functionality and beauty at the heart of its collections, Georg Jensen have a beautiful line of striking contemporary objects for the home, which they design under their own name as well as in collaboration with talented designers. Their styled shoots are gorgeous in their own right, look:
Meet Danish brand Georg Jensen
Dreamy, isn’t it? As the brand is well-stocked on Skandium, I handpicked five of my favourite living pieces for you, in case you fancy giving a touch of luxury to your dining room. As you know, I’m thinking about living/dining spaces a lot at the moment as I’m giving ours a little refresh. I also think that the below would make beautiful and thoughtful gifts for a design-minded friend or family member, and it’s never too early to keep an eye out for Christmas presents (unless you know, you love the rush and crowds).
Scandinavian Lux Picks, Georg Jensen on Skandium
1 // Onion Bonbonniere by Georg Jensen (£65)
2 // Urkiola Pitcher by Patricia Urquiola for Georg Jensen (£80)
3 // Helena Teapot by Helena Rohner for Georg Jensen (£145)
4 // Urkiola Candleholder by Patricia Urquiola for Georg Jensen (£120)
5 // Alfredo Carafe by Georg Jensen (£38)
Does anything catch your eye?
If you’d like to give Skandium a follow for some design inspiration, they’re on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest, and if you’re planning to go to the book launch at the Marylebone shop on September 10th, let me know in the comments as it’s on my list too!

September 1, 2016...and here I am thinking that IKEA is the home of Scandinavian design (joking! Please don't lynch me, Scandic-Enthusiasts and design snobs...).
Skandium looks very chic and a lot more expensive than their reasonable prices! x

September 1, 2016Agreed, that's always the perfect mix isn't it? Looking expensive without the price tag :) Glad you like the look of Skandium Jasiminne!

September 11, 2016I really love Skandium - it's got some elegant, beautiful pieces which retain an element of cool since they're so design-oriented. My family has occasionally shopped at their Marylebone shop for quite a few years now! Love the Georg Jensen candleholder, it's so unique! x

September 11, 2016How lovely, I definitely need to visit the Marylebone shop! I've only been browsing the e-shop so far. The candleholder is beautiful I agree, such a statement piece :) Thank you for taking the time to comment and if you're at Top Drawer today by any chance, do come and say hello, I'll be having a look around! x
