Postcard from Rovinj, Croatia

Postcard from Rovinj, Croatia

I’m writing to you from beautiful stormy Dubrovnik where we arrived this morning for the last five days of our trip. I had promised myself to blog halfway through and diligently snapped away as we made our way down along the coast from Istria in the northwest to Dalmatia in the southeast.

Of course, we’ve had such a fantastic time so far that only rain itself could finally force us indoors and have me sit down at the laptop to edit pictures etc. Hopefully it won’t last too long but if it does, don’t worry I have already earned myself a lovely golden brown tan these last eight days.

So today, I’m taking you along to the beautiful Rovinj in the region of Istria which is a bit of a stunner: imagine a medieval colourful old town perched on the rocks with a fishing harbour and swimming spots dotted along its cliffs. Yes, if you’d mistake this place for a picturesque Italian coastal village then you wouldn’t be very far off.

Our stay here was so wonderfully lazy: getting lost in the meanders of cobbled streets, taking in the breathtaking views of the Adriatic see-through waters from the hilltop church of St Euphemia and enjoying the freshest most delicious seafood the little konobes and restaurants have to offer before rinsing it all down with a Croatian wine or local rajika (some kind of liqueur, honey or flower infused) of course.

We fell just a little bit in love with the city and I’m sure that you will too. Here is a photo-diary:

I’ll be writing again about our trip to Croatia, the amazing places that we’re visiting and recommendations on what to do, where to eat, our first impressions (we want to move here!). In the meantime, I’m wondering…

If you could jet off to any place in the world right now, where would you go? Is there a holiday destination that you have fallen in love with and are dying to go back to? I’d love to hear all about it.

If you’ve enjoyed this post, keep in touch with Hecticophilia! Whether on Twitter,  Facebook or by adding it to your RSS feed on Bloglovin or Feedly. Do you have friends who enjoy travelling and that you’d love to go on a trip with next? Maybe they’ll enjoy the Postcards from Croatia I’ll be sharing on this blog as part of Lately? Don’t forget: to care is to share.

If I could jet off to any part of the world right would definitely be Croatia, for a holiday full of seaside, sunbathing and seafood! Your post is making me miss it so much, especially since I've been to Rovinj and loved it. Can't wait to hear all about the rest of your trip, and those pictures are really beautiful :)

Hi Steph! Thank you for your lovely comment and for the good wishes :) We've been lucky indeed! And for today they had announced storms all day and we've had a beautiful weather instead so I'm feeling super grateful. Jesse x

Rob is so proud to be mentioned in the comment section Honey! :) Thank you, you're super sweet - it's true that we've been really relaxed, two weeks off is so much better than twice one week! I really feel like I unplugged. See you soon x

Hey, found your blog via your Blogtacular post and stumbled across these fabulous pics of Croatia. I am hoping to go this year, just trying to work out which are the best places. Your pictures are amazing, haven't helped me decide at all. It all looks so beautiful - I'm not sure a week is going to be anywhere near enough!

Hey Becci, thank you for commenting and the kind words. I know exactly how you feel, Croatia is such a big country, everywhere is beautiful and it was so hard for us to do an itinerary in the first place. I really need to edit and publish those pictures of Dubrovnik too, maybe I can add yet another destination to your list! Best, Jesse.
