Opening Day: London Fashion Weekend
This Thursday I dashed to Somerset House in the early afternoon to attend the opening of the London Fashion Weekend in great company with fellow bloggers Leigh, Gloria, Marlene, Frances, Josh and Rachel.
This industry event follows directly on from London Fashion Week and uses the same exhibition and catwalk venue, sprawling across a multitude of rooms with designer pop-ups, hair and beauty bars, educational panels with fashion editors, stylists and trend experts, as well as catwalks dotted throughout the day.
On Thursday this included the success story of beloved British brand Cambridge Satchel Company (2pm), a peek at the backstage of a shoot for Hello Fashion Monthly (4.30pm), and a chat with the artistic director of Toni & Guy (6.15pm). The catwalk shows this season include the seasonal collections of Amanda Wakeley, Halston Heritage, Fyodor Golan, Sibling and Jean-Pierre Braganza.
I was excited to be invited to this event and I am really pleasantly surprised by my first visit. The whole afternoon went by at the snap of a finger, there were plenty of great designer racks to shop from at dramatically discounted prices, and a vast array of established brands to network with if you’re a blogger or work around PR or marketing.
The reservations and payment arrangement was a nice touch too, so that you could wander and shop without carrying heavy bags, and visit the till to pay and pick up your reserved items at the end of the day.
The evening wrapped up with a Spring/Summer catwalk presentation by The Outnet at 8pm, illustrating four of this season’s upcoming trends: Hyperflorals, Monochrome, Shimmer and Shine, and a 70s silhouette, featuring designer pieces from Lanvin and Christopher Kane to Alexander Wang as well as the Outnet’s own label Irish and Ink.
I have to say, it’s surprisingly hard to take a good catwalk photo, which is why I am sparing you the forty slightly blurry shots I took, and directing you to the snaps and videos you can find on the dedicated Facebook page instead.
If you’re looking for some fashion inspiration or a wardrobe refresh, I would definitely recommend checking out this industry event. It goes on today until 7pm and tomorrow until 6pm; I hear that most garments get further reductions on Sunday! You can grab a ticket on their website, let me know if you’re tempted to go or have attended before.
