Flower Market, Columbia Road

Flower Market, Columbia Road

As I am writing this post I am sitting cross-legged on the terrace with my sunglasses on and a homemade lemonade in hand, being very grateful for the gorgeous weather. Especially since (and I’ve sort of kept this on the DL) I finally took a week off for the first time since Christmas, hopping on the Bank holiday weekend.

I can tell you I started with a to-do list as long as my arm but it’s been very satisfying to get all of this lingering life admin done over the Easter weekend, these things that always get pushed back to later like looking for content insurance, renewing my passport, registering to vote! and suddenly realise that I have a lot of my headspace back.

I don’t think I had a “holiday at home” in a really long time, usually Rob and I are always popping to France or Wales to see family, or spending a long weekend in Manchester, Liverpool or Brighton. It’s been lovely to just have time to relax and read, go for wanders on sunny afternoons and catch up with friends we don’t always get to see.

Although, I am getting a little bit of wanderlust thinking about our trip to Croatia last year and we have made no such big plans this year; I would love to have something to look forward to this Summer! For now I started editing the pictures from the last leg of the trip so you can expect a post about Dubrovnik very soon, and then I’ll probably cave and get cheap flights to anywhere for August; I’m happy for your recommendations.

In the meantime of course, there is always London. And there is so much to do here, something that I just forget about on busy weeks, the great things that are right on our doorstep or just a short bus trip away.

We paid a visit to the Columbia Road flower market recently, with its sea of traders shouting “Everything’s a fiver!” and its tiny independent shops. Forced to walk slow in the crowd we grabbed some fish snacks cornets and steaming cups of coffee and lazed like cats in the sun for the whole morning. It was great.

As always, here is a little photo-diary:

Thank you for the kind words Abigail and yes, you should definitely go! I'd recommend getting there a little early so it's not too crowded, such as 10am - although even if you go later you'll still have a great time!

I love the Flower Market! I live just around the corner so every now and then I go there on a Sunday for some fresh flowers. It's getting bigger and I love the little side street where now different quirky bands play regularly.

Lucky you! @Uli I love the little side street too, not sure what it's called but that's where the French cheese monger was, his stalk was gorgeous. Also, there were a few second-hand / carboot stalls with very cheap and cool items but I was all out of cash so need to go back and have a proper look. Thank you for commenting!
