Men’s Christmas Gifts, Uncommon Goods

Just recently I wrote about my Christmas to-do list and shared my commitment to get our own tree, ornaments and baubles so that we can make our London flat merry and cosy this year. I hope you don’t feel like it’s too soon to be talking about this, but Christmas always starts to look like it’s just around the corner from me in late October because that’s when I grab Eurostar tickets and plan to see my family again. We might be just a hop across the channel from each other but I do miss them and I’m always looking forward to our twice-a-year reunion.

When it comes to gift-giving, I like to take my time and I usually start shopping in November. Personally I think that it’s a little easier to spread the cost over two months because even if you don’t go crazy with your spending, it does add up. I have just made my list and I have about twenty gifts to get this year, some of them on my own dime, some sharing with others. The best part of it is how thoughtful and creative you have to be to find the perfect present, despite having offered someone a good number of birthday and christmas gifts before. Let’s be honest, it can be challenging to come up with something new and exciting year on year.

What I tend to do is bite the bullet and start with the hardest gifts, for me that’s buying presents for men. Cards on table, I’ve a little too often resorted to buying the men in my family books, but there’s only so many times you can get away with that and so this year I made myself the promise that there wouldn’t be one single book to wrap! As a result, I’ve been on the lookout for unique and original gifts and today, for my first Christmas Gifts Roundup of the season, I wanted to introduce you to the Brooklyn-based marketplace Uncommon Goods.

Committed to sustainability and creative design, you can find on the site a plethora of gifts sourced from their tight-knit community of independent artisans and makers. What’s great as well is that you can shop for a good cause through their “Better to Give” program: with every purchase you make, they’ll donate $1 to a non-profit of your choice. It’s a great initiative which has helped them raised over $1 million already.

Here are some great original christmas gifts for men I handpicked for you, I hope this will give you some ideas for the men in your life and I definitely recommend having a browse of their product range!

What a timely post, Jesse! Like you, I also prefer to start Christmas shopping in November just so I don't panic as the date looms nearer (I remember one year I went to Harrods the day before Christmas Eve in a frantic bid for last minute shopping...worst evening ever). I love all your picks, they're so creative and fun. I wish I could also do a post on my Christmas picks but then everyone would figure out what they're getting! x

Hey Jasiminne, thank you for stopping by and I hope you're having a lovely time in Seoul and back home! I know, once I had clicked "publish" it hit me that I can't really get any of these gifts for Rob now otherwise there will be no effect of surprise. For my dad, grandpa and a couple of other men around me it should be okay as I don't think they follow the blog religiously (how dare they! ^^) but anyway... good point ;)

Hey Julieta, thank you for popping by and you can most certainly wear the bow tie! Some of my favourite garments are borrowed from traditional Menswear, like brogues :)
